Archiving and restoring chats

Archive finished conversations, restore previous work, and clean up old chat history.

Archive a conversation when you want to remove it from active history while keeping the option to return to it. Archived chats are managed centrally in Settings → Archived Chats.

Archive a conversation#

  1. Open the chat you want to archive.
  2. Open its … menu in the chat header.
  3. Select Archive.

You can also use the archive action beside a conversation in Chat history. The chat disappears from active history and from the open layout. Its messages remain available for restoration.

Archiving does not undo code changes, remove the project folder, or create a Git stash. To remove only a column from view, close the column instead.

Find and restore archived chats#

  1. Open Settings using the gear icon at the top of Dream.
  2. Select Archived Chats.
  3. Find the conversation in the table. Each row shows its title, project, and archive date.
  4. Select the checkbox beside the chat, then click Restore.
  5. Return to its project and open Chat history to select the restored conversation.

You can select several rows and restore them together. The checkbox in the table header selects all archived chats, including chats from other projects. Check the Project column before applying a bulk action.

Select archived conversations to restore or delete them. The Project column identifies where each chat belongs.

Restoring makes a chat available in history; it does not automatically open that chat or its project. If its project is closed, reopen it from Recently closed on the getting-started screen.

Archive older conversations together#

  1. In Settings → Archived Chats, find Archive chats after.
  2. Enter a positive number of days. The default is 30.
  3. Click Archive now.

Dream archives conversations whose last activity is at least that many days old. Chats that are currently responding or generating a title are skipped. This action applies across projects.

The day value is a cutoff for Archive now. Changing it alone does not schedule automatic archiving. Restoring a chat also does not change its last-activity date, so an old restored chat may qualify again the next time you run Archive now.

Permanently delete archived chats#

  1. Open Settings → Archived Chats.
  2. Select the conversations you no longer need.
  3. Check the selected rows and click Delete.

Delete permanently removes the selected chats and their messages from Dream. The action takes effect without another confirmation dialog, and those chats cannot be restored through Dream.

Deletion affects Dream's chat history. It does not revert changes in the project or delete the project's files.

If a conversation is missing from both active and archived history, see troubleshooting missing chats.
