Reusable prompts

Save instructions once and run them in any project's chat.

Use Settings → Prompts for instructions you repeat across projects, such as reviewing changes or addressing review comments. A saved prompt has a name and text; it runs in the conversation you choose, using that chat's model and settings.

Create a prompt#

  1. Open Settings → Prompts and click New prompt.
  2. Enter a short Name that you will recognize in the chat menu.
  3. Write the instructions in Prompt and click Create.

For example, name a prompt “Review changes” and save:

Review the current changes for bugs, missing edge cases, and unintended behavior. Report findings with file references. Do not edit files yet.

The prompt is available across projects. Keep reusable instructions independent of a particular folder, or make sure any paths in the text apply to the project where you run it.

Run a prompt in a chat#

  1. Open the project and conversation you want to use.
  2. Review that chat's model and permissions.
  3. Open the + menu beside the message box.
  4. Choose Run prompt, then select the saved prompt.

Selecting a prompt sends its text immediately to that chat. It does not first insert an editable draft. Text you already typed in the composer is kept, and the saved prompt remains available for reuse. If you want to adapt the text before sending, copy it from Settings and paste it into the composer yourself.

Run prompt is unavailable while the chat is busy. Wait for the response to finish before running another prompt. If submission fails, check the composer for the prompt text.

Manage the list#

Select a reusable prompt to read and copy its text. The row controls reorder, convert, edit, or delete it.

Select a prompt in Settings → Prompts to preview and copy its text. Use Edit, or double-click its name, to change it. Move up and Move down change its position in the list and chat menu. To remove a prompt, click its delete control and then Confirm delete.

Manage prompts… in the chat's Run prompt menu opens this settings page.

Turn a prompt into a skill#

Use Save as skill beside a saved prompt to open the skill creation dialog with its name and instructions filled in. Add a description, choose where to save it, and click Create. See Agent skills for provider support and storage locations.
