Sending feedback to a chat
Comment on specific diff lines or on an element in the browser preview and send it to an agent.
Dream can build a message for you from what you are looking at. Select lines in a diff or pick an element in the browser preview, add a comment, and Dream sends the comment together with a reference the agent can act on.
Comment on lines in a diff#
- Open Changes in the right toolbar and expand a file.
- Drag across the line numbers to select a range, or hover over a line number and click its + control to select a single line. Selected lines are highlighted.
- Type your comment in the popover's Ask anything... box.
- Enable New chat if you want the comment to start a separate conversation.
- Press Enter or click Send message.
The agent receives your comment followed by a Referenced diff block containing the file path, the line range, whether the lines come from the old or new version, and the selected lines themselves. You can select lines on either side of a unified or split diff, and a selection can span both sides.
Line selection is available in the Changes panel only. Diffs shown inside chat messages, in Changes in this reply, and in the worktree completion dialog do not offer it.
For example, select the lines of a new condition and ask:
This branch never runs when the list is empty. Handle that case and add a test.
Send a page element from the browser#
- Open Browser and load the page you want to discuss.
- Click Select an element to send to chat in the browser toolbar. The same action is available in the browser actions menu.
- Move the pointer over the page. Dream outlines the element under the pointer and shows its name and size.
- Click the element. Clicks in this mode select elements rather than activating links or buttons. Press Escape to leave the mode without selecting anything.
- In the Send to chat form, check the thumbnail and element name, type your comment, choose whether to enable New chat, and click Send to chat.
The message includes the page URL and title, the element's name and CSS selector, its parents, size
and position, visible text, key computed styles, and its HTML. For React and Vue applications, Dream
adds the component chain and, in development builds, the source file location. A screenshot of the
element is attached as browser-element.png.
Element selection works on the active browser tab in Dream. Elements inside embedded frames cannot be selected individually; picking one selects the frame. Navigating or reloading the page cancels the selection, and long attribute values, text, and HTML are truncated.
Where the message goes#
| New chat | Destination |
|---|---|
| Off | The project's first open chat, which becomes the active chat |
| On | A new chat, opened beside the current chats when multi-chat is enabled |
If the destination chat is busy, the send control is disabled and shows Chat busy. The message is not queued behind the current response; wait for it to finish or enable New chat.
Text you have already typed in the chat composer is kept. If the message cannot be sent, Dream appends your comment to that composer so you can send it yourself. Press Escape or click outside the popover to discard a comment before sending it.
Use project references and attachments when you want to point at files without selecting specific lines, and Stash to save a prompt for later.
