Terminals
Run project commands, manage terminal sessions, and continue a Claude conversation in the terminal.
The integrated terminal runs commands in your project without leaving Dream. Click Terminal in the right toolbar to open it. A normal project terminal starts in the project folder.
Run commands alongside a chat#
Use a terminal to inspect the project, run tests, or start its local application using the commands documented by that project. The terminal and agent chats work with the same files in this workspace.
For a browser preview, start the project's application, note the URL it prints, and open that URL in Dream's Browser. Opening Browser does not start a server automatically.
Manage terminal sessions#
- Open Terminal.
- Click Open another terminal, the + control, to create another session.
- Select a terminal tab to switch sessions.
- Use a terminal's close control when you are finished with it.
Use separate sessions for a long-running application and occasional commands such as tests. Closing a terminal session ends its process. Closing the panel preserves sessions you have used, but Dream cleans up automatically opened sessions that have received no user input.
Use Expand terminal to give the panel more room and Collapse terminal to restore its usual size. Expanding or collapsing changes the layout without closing the session.
When copying text, select it first. Command+C on macOS or Ctrl+C on Windows/Linux copies selected terminal text. Without a selection, the terminal can pass Ctrl+C through to interrupt the foreground command.
Choose a shell#
- Open Settings → General.
- Find Terminal and choose an available shell from its selector.
- Open a new terminal session to use the selected shell.
Existing sessions keep the shell they were started with. If a shell or command is unavailable, verify that it is installed and works in your system terminal.
Continue a Claude chat in a terminal#
For a Claude conversation with an established resumable session:
- Wait for the current response to finish.
- Open the chat header's … menu.
- Choose Continue in terminal.
Dream opens a terminal named Claude in that session's working directory and runs the CLI's resume command. This action is specific to Claude sessions; it is not a general export action for every provider.
If the option is missing, check that the chat uses Claude and has started a provider session. Changing its model or speed can reset that session. If continuation fails, verify that the original working directory still exists and the Claude CLI is available.
