MCP servers

Add or import external tools for supported coding agents.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers make additional tools available to agents. Configure them in Settings → MCP servers. Dream supports these connections for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, and Grok Build. Cursor does not support Dream-managed MCP connections.

Add a server#

  1. Open Settings → MCP servers and click Add server.
  2. Choose a unique Name using letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores, beginning with a letter or number.
  3. Choose the Transport and enter the connection details supplied by the server.
  4. Leave Enabled on to make the server available, then click Save.
TransportFields
Command (stdio)Executable in Command, one argument per line in Arguments, and optional Environment variables
HTTPAn HTTP or HTTPS URL and optional Headers
SSEAn HTTP or HTTPS URL and optional Headers

Enter environment variables and headers as one KEY=VALUE pair per line. Keep the executable separate from its arguments. For example, a local server might use node as its command and an absolute path to its entry file as an argument.

Server definitions are stored in Dream's local database, including any credentials you enter. Those values are stored unencrypted.

Import existing configuration#

  1. Select the project whose configuration you want to include.
  2. Open Settings → MCP servers → Import….
  3. Review the detected servers, their source files, and any warnings.
  4. Select the servers to add and click Import.

Dream scans Claude user and project configuration, Codex's user configuration, and Cursor's user and project MCP configuration. Entries whose names are already configured are marked Already exists and are not imported again.

Importing copies definitions into Dream. Later changes to the original files are not automatically synchronized. Importing a Cursor configuration makes its server available to Dream's supported providers; it does not add MCP support to Cursor chats in Dream.

Edit, disable, or remove a server#

Manage each server's enabled state and connection definition from the MCP servers list.

Use Edit to change a definition and Save to apply it. Switch Enabled off to keep its configuration without making it available to subsequent agent requests. To remove it, use Delete, then Confirm delete. Removing the definition does not uninstall its executable.

After changing a server, send a new request in a supported chat. If the provider still uses an old connection, start a new chat. Check the executable, URL, credentials, and chat error if tools do not become available.

Dream's built-in browser tools are connected automatically for supported providers; you do not need to add a server for them here.
