Saving prompts with Stash
Prepare tasks for later, edit saved prompts, and submit them into new conversations.
Stash holds prompts you want to run later in the current project. Each saved item includes its text, project references, model, effort, speed, and permissions.
Use it to capture a follow-up task while another chat is busy. For example, save “Review the error states in the settings form” while finishing the implementation.
Save a task for later#
- Select the project that the task belongs to.
- Click Stash, the inbox icon at the bottom of the right toolbar.
- Write the task in the new-prompt composer at the bottom of the panel.
- Add project references with @ and choose the model and permissions.
- Submit the new prompt to add it to the saved list.
Submitting from this bottom composer saves the task; it does not start an agent response. A saved item appears above it in the Stash panel. Switch projects to see that project's separate stash.
Edit a saved prompt#
Edit the text directly in its saved item and adjust the controls beneath it. Check the model and permissions again before running it, especially if you have changed your default models since saving the task. Saved items retain their own selections.
Project references point to paths. They do not preserve a snapshot of the referenced files. The agent will work with the project as it exists when you run the task.
Use project references for context you want to keep in Stash. File attachments selected through the attachment picker are not retained in saved items; attach those files in a regular chat.
Run a saved task#
- Find the saved item you want to run.
- Review its text, references, model, and permissions.
- Click that item's submit control.
Dream creates a new chat with the saved settings and submits the prompt. If multi-chat is enabled, the conversation opens beside the current chats. Otherwise it becomes the visible chat.
The item is removed from Stash when it is handed to the new chat. If the response fails, inspect the new conversation for the error rather than expecting the item to remain in Stash.
Remove a saved task#
Use Delete stashed chat on the saved item to remove it without starting a conversation. This removes the saved prompt, not files in the project.
Stash stores future tasks for one project. For instructions you want to keep using across projects, use reusable prompts. To keep a completed conversation out of active history, use Archived Chats. To isolate code changes, use Git worktrees.
